About Robert
Robert E. Kinneman, III, my brother, was brutally murdered in Mount Pleasant, SC in November 2003 at
the age of 39. He loved the Charleston area, the people and the fishing. Rob's main profession was
that of a carpenter and he would often hire on young adults to work with him. He enjoyed teaching his
trade and was the same about fishing. Robert was passionate about being on the water and was happy
whether he caught a fish or not. He constantly spoke of fishing to all who would listen and would often
invite people to join him on the water.
Robert had dreams of becoming a boat captain and often spoke about wanting to get more kids out on
the water to experience all that fishing had to offer. His rationale for this was that once you left land, you
left your problems behind. There is something about the water that has a calming effect to make things
become more clear.
His personality and generosity were perhaps his biggest assets. If you were ever looking for Rob all you
had to do was find out were everyone was laughing and joking and he'd be in the center. I'm not saying
that he was perfect but in his last few years of life he was the most courteous, kindest and generous
man you would like to meet.

The early years
Rob was born June 9, 1964 in Pensacola, Florida.
Being a member of a military family, we moved
several times while growing up.
Perhaps being born in Florida near the white sandy
beaches formed Rob's love of the water. He began
fishing when very young and going with Grandpa to
freshwater lakes and reeling in rainbow trout. Later
Rob would cast a line attempting to catch a fish
whenever he was near a body of water. Once he
even managed to catch himself in the back while
casting.
Fishing was not Rob's only sport when young. He
was also involved in skateboarding, sailing, biking,
snow skiing, bowling and baseball.
Education
Robert was lucky enough to have
attended school in Alexandria, Va at
Washington Mill Elementary School
from Kindergarten to 4th grade. He
attended school at the Naval base in
Rota, Spain for the next 3 years and
then back to Alexandria. Rob
graduated from Mt. Vernon HS in
1982 and went out into the working
world.
Later Years
After graduation, Rob held a variety of jobs working in the
service industry. A very good choice for him as he was
always in the center of everything and the life of every
gathering. No matter what job Rob was performing he
completed it to the best of his ability and always
maintained time to fish and enjoy life.
Rob lived for several years in Richmond, Va working in the
construction industry as a drywall installer. Later he had
an opportunity to move to Charleston, SC. This was the
perfect life for Rob as he fit right in with the southern
hospitality and friendliness of the area. Best of all he was
able to enjoy great fishing!
In Charleston, Rob worked as a carpenter moving himself
from various construction jobs as a supervisor or foreman
for a small company. He moved into a house in Mt.
Pleasant and things were looking real good. Occasionally,
Rob would take people under his wing at work to teach
them what he knew about carpentry and provide them with
a day's pay. Unfortunately, his kindness was the thing
that got him killed.
In November of 2003, Robert took on a young man from
Tennessee as a boarder. Not knowing the area or where
to find work, Rob got him a job with the company helping
with construction. Approximately a week after moving in
with Rob the young man decided that he wanted to return
to Tennessee. Having no money nor transportation the
man chose to take Rob's new truck. For some reason the
man made the decision to kill Rob in order to get the
truck. At age 39, Rob was brutally attacked and killed in
his home.

Robert had a love of life and lived his life
to the fullest. Many of us envied his free
spirit. At the time we referred to it as
immaturity and an unwillingness to grow
up. May all of us have a bit of free
spirit..... Thanks Rob for the lessons!
